It was on Christmas Eve 1972 that the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ, found me on a naval destroyer warship cruising off the coast of Viet Nam during battle stations in the middle of the war. The real war was happening over my eternal soul and I finally surrendered to Him as my Lord and Savior. I prayed to receive him as my personal Lord and Savior and asked Him for His forgiveness of my sins. It was that Christmas Eve evening that a faithful servant of God had the courage to share with me that I needed to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and that it was more than just head knowledge. The Holy Spirit used Ephesian 2:8-9 to convince me that my works had nothing to do with earning God’s favor. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man could boast.”
That took place almost 45 years ago. Then, it took a few years for me to learn and realize that it only makes logical sense to surrender and to give one’s life back in surrender and dedication to the one who died and gave His life for me. (2 Cor.5:15) As a result, I made a commitment to my Lord to go into the ministry to serve Him the rest of my life.
I am beginning my 40th year of full-time Christian Service and I have been blessed to serve as a missionary church planter for 14 out of those 40 years and 26 years as a Pastor. In October 2011, I was officially voted in as Pastor/Teaching Elder here at NFBC. The past five years before coming to NFBC I was the General Director of American Mission for Opening Churches in Olcott, NY. AMOC is the home of the Niagara Bible Conference and the Niagara Adventure Camp.
My wife Shelly and I celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary this past May 31st. She has been such a faithful helper to me in all our ministries, I couldn’t have done it without her. We have three children all of which are married. And we have been blessed with two grandchildren (ages 4 and 4 months).
I received a B.A. in Biblical and Pastoral Studies from Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in association with Frontier School of the Bible (Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music has been absorbed into Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, MI.)
The Lord has been so good in giving me the gifts and talents that I have which I have been able to use for His glory. Some of which are: Black Light Chalk Art Ministry, Civil War re-enactor & living history of Major General Lew Wallace (author of “Ben Hur”), Gospel Magic and Children\’s ministries, Children\’s Missionary Conferences, Christ in the Passover Seder demonstrations, Creation-Science/Apologetics Teacher Training seminars, Men\’s retreat speaker and I even had the opportunity to be a Standup comic twice.
I thank God for counting me worthy to be in His service. I pray that I may be able to serve Him many years to come here at NFBC.
