THE GOSPEL

What is the gospel?

The most important matter we can share with you is the gospel of God's grace and forgiveness. So, before you go any further please read below about the gospel. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask us. Here is what the gospel is:

JESUS CAME INTO GALILEE, PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL OF GOD, AND SAYING, “THE TIME IS FULFILLED, AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND; REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL.” – MARK 1:14-15

What is the Gospel? The word means Good News. We all need good news, and this particular good news is the greatest of all. We cannot understand it though, until we come to the place where we understand that we are in trouble… with God.

FOR THE WRATH OF GOD IS REVEALED FROM HEAVEN AGAINST ALL UNGODLINESS AND UNRIGHTEOUSNESS OF MEN, WHO BY THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS SUPPRESS THE TRUTH. FOR WHAT CAN BE KNOWN ABOUT GOD IS PLAIN TO THEM, BECAUSE GOD HAS SHOWN IT TO THEM. FOR HIS INVISIBLE ATTRIBUTES, NAMELY, HIS ETERNAL POWER AND DIVINE NATURE, HAVE BEEN CLEARLY PERCEIVED, EVER SINCE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD, IN THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE. SO THEY ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE…” – ROMANS 1:18-20

No one is without excuse. God has revealed Himself clearly in nature, in the world and universe that He has made. The stars. The trees. Animals. Oceans. And in all the wonderful complexities, particularly those of man, his prime creation, made in His very own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). But mankind suppresses this knowledge willfully and deserves to be condemned. God has given men and women His Law to show them that they are sinners. We are to put our Creator first above all things and keep His Name holy and respected. We are to love our neighbors, all made in His image, by not stealing from them, lying to them, envying them, or disrespecting or cheating them in anyway (See Exodus 20:1-17). But God is merciful. His holy nature does not allow Him to just forgive those who break His laws without punishment. He is just and right in all He does. That’s what being holy means. He is perfectly pure and right. But again He is merciful, that is exactly what the Scriptures teach and tell us:

BUT GOD DEMONSTRATES HIS OWN LOVE TOWARD US, IN THAT WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US. – ROMANS 5:8

God sent His Son Jesus, who was fully God and fully man to make atonement for our sins.

BUT IF ANYONE DOES SIN, WE HAVE AN ADVOCATE WITH THE FATHER, JESUS CHRIST THE RIGHTEOUS. HE IS THE PROPITIATION (TURNING AWAY WRATH) FOR OUR SINS, AND NOT FOR OURS ONLY BUT ALSO FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD. – 1 JOHN 2:1-2

. . . ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, AND ARE JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE AS A GIFT, THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS, WHOM GOD PUT FORWARD AS A PROPITIATION BY HIS BLOOD, TO BE RECEIVED BY FAITH. THIS WAS TO SHOW GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS, BECAUSE IN HIS DIVINE FORBEARANCE HE HAD PASSED OVER FORMER SINS. IT WAS TO SHOW HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AT THE PRESENT TIME, SO THAT HE MIGHT BE JUST AND THE JUSTIFIER OF THE ONE WHO HAS FAITH IN JESUS. – ROMANS 3:23-26

So how can God be just and right and forgive people who have done him and others wrong? The cross of Jesus Christ is the answer! Everyone has broken His Law (Romans 3:23). That means you reader. Will you admit it and your need for His forgiveness?
This Jesus “was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). Do you believe this? Because if “you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). It’s all in the Holy Writings we call the Bible. The question Jesus had for His disciples 2000 years ago is the question He has for you today, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15)
What do you say? And what do you believe? If you are ready to follow Jesus, then obey His command and “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Repenting is turning from sin, and believing is turning to God and looking to Him in faith. You cannot have one without the other. It is our sincere prayer that you will believe this gospel now. None of us knows how long we have. If you have any questions, again please do not hesitate to contact our church and ask to speak with our pastors.
